Mortadella is a large sausage or cold cut made with different spices and nuts. It is said that Mortadella gets its name from a Roman sausage. Ancient Romans called the sausage myrtle sausage, because the sausage was flavored with myrtle berries, a popular spice before pepper became available to European markets. Mortadella originated in Bologna, Italy. Slicing and serving Mortadella Like most sausage products, the thinner the slice the better. Thin slices of Mortadella are more flavorful. Mortadella can also be served in small cubes.
